Paralegal Pointers: Rest, Reset and Recharge — Finding the Time and Activity That Works for You

Recharge

Paralegal work is demanding. You manage strict deadlines and urgent paperwork while juggling client appointments daily. You skip breaks just to keep your to-do list manageable.

However, failing to take time to recharge actually reduces your productivity. It’s also bad for your health and leads to burnout.

Whether you’re taking 10 minutes, a weekend, or a real vacation — here are some ways to get your mind off work and refocus on you.

Take Some Rest

Downtime is important for your health. Taking some time to read a book you enjoy or to watch your favorite show can help you relax after a stressful day. You might practice meditation, mindfulness or breathing exercises to calm your mind. A relaxing salt bath is another excellent way to release tension and inflammation.

Be Creative

One of the best ways to reset is to take up a new hobby that you’ve wanted to try. Playing an instrument, pottery making, or basket weaving are all excellent skills to start learning at any age. You don’t have to be good at whatever it is you try; you just need to enjoy it.

Make a Move

Exercising is an excellent way to improve your mood. A short walk in the park or dancing to your favorite music can work wonders as stress relief.  Yoga and stretching improve flexibility and release muscle tension. Kickboxing is another great stress reliever and has been known to save lives.

Make a Difference

The best feeling in the world can be helping someone else. Volunteering can be a great two-for-one way to recharge. There are plenty of opportunities: sorting food at the Food Bank, tutoring underprivileged students, and helping clean up after natural disasters. You get to help people in times of need and reinvigorate yourself with positive energy.

Get Together

Maintaining relationships in adulthood can be difficult due to work schedules, children’s schedules, and life in general. Take some time to prioritize people in your life. Plan a night out with your friends that you haven’t seen in forever. Have a date night with your spouse or significant other.

Get Away

Sometimes the best way to de-stress from work is to put some distance between you and the workplace. This doesn’t mean you need to hop on a plane to Paris (though we’d all love that, wouldn’t we?). Simply spending time at the beach or in the mountains can work wonders. You can even take a day trip to nearby places you haven’t been to before.

Conclusion

There are numerous ways you can rest and reset. Pick one that works for you or do a variety of things that make you happy.

The important thing is to take the time to relax. The benefit is the clarity and focus it brings after the stress is gone.

Taking time to recharge will make you a better paralegal.
