Byte of Prevention Blog

Follow the little blue bird

twitter logoThere was a time when law firms disregarded social media and wrote it off as “child’s play.” My how the tables have turned. Social media is becoming an increasingly important part of marketing strategies.

There’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, and...Ok, before you get overwhelmed remember not all social media is created equal. You have to figure out what channel works best for your firm.

Most firms have a LinkedIn and possibly a Facebook page. Twitter is often overlooked. However, Twitter is actually a content goldmine and can help you emerge as a thought leader.

Twitter allows you to share your content with others. Does your firm have a blog or company news? Twitter gives you a place to share your content other than just hoping someone clicks the “company news” or “blog” tabs on your website. The more information you share, the more people will begin to take notice.

Twitter allows you to share the content of others. Twitter houses so much information and it’s constantly flowing in. Find other firms, legal associations and companies that are sharing information that is relevant to you and your clients. In sharing the content of others they will return the favor; which will ultimately expand your reach.

Twitter provides news you can use. “Content is king,” and there’s plenty of it at your fingertips. Twitter gives you a chance to stay on top of the trends and see what topics are most popular concerning various issues.

Do you get annoyed with hashtags? The next time you find yourself annoyed with the hashtag overload while scrolling through Twitter, stop and click on them. Hashtags allow you to narrow down your search. Want to see what people are saying about #cybersecurity, #lawschool or #legalblogs? Simply click on the hashtags while scrolling.

Hashtags can also help you when creating content. You can use hashtags to search what topics are trending in your area.

Finding time for social media is a common complaint. Luckily, there are social media management tools available. Hootsuite happens to be my personal favorite.

Hootsuite gives you a place to manage all your firm’s social media. You don’t have to worry about becoming overwhelmed because Hootsuite allows you to schedule your posts in advance.

I recommend downloading the Hootsuite extension for your internet browser. Once you have the Hootsuite “button” on your browser, when you happen to read a blog or article that catches your attention, you can simply click the Hootsuite button and it will let you choose where you want the information to go. How convenient is that?
