Sharon Parker Selected as Chair of the Lawyers Mutual Board of Directors
Cary, N.C. – Lawyers Mutual is pleased to announce a change to its Board of Directors. Sharon Parker has become the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Lawyers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of North Carolina after serving on the Board for 22 years. During her tenure, she has been the Chairperson of the LML Claims Committee and served on the Finance, Governance and Executive Committees.
In addition to her lengthy service on the Board, Parker has been active in various bar associations and civic groups in North Carolina, serving on the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. Parker served as Co-Chair of the first NCBA Commission on the Status of Women in the Legal Profession. In 2015, Parker received the North Carolina Bar Association Citizen Lawyer Award. Parker has also served as President and on the Board of the McDowell County Bar Association, The McDowell Endowment [an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina], and Catawba Valley Legal Services [now Legal Aid of the Foothills]. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Marion, the McDowell Technical College Foundation Board of Directors, and The North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.
Other honors include the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and the Gwyneth B. Davis Award from the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys for outstanding contribution to the promotion of women lawyers and the rights of women under the law. In 2012, Parker received the McDowell County Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award for her work supporting and finding resources for non-profits and service agencies serving McDowell County. She is also involved with other local non-profit and service groups, including her church youth council.
As a solo practitioner in Marion, NC, Parker focuses her practice on business law, estate planning and administration, and works with many non-profits. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an Honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law.
