John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award Presented
Lawyers Mutual congratulates Clifton T. Barrett, Harry B. Crow, Jr., and Robert Wolf for receiving the John M. McMillan Distinguished Service Award. The award honors current and retired members of the North Carolina State Bar who have shown exemplary service to the profession.
Mr. Wolf has been in private practice in Rutherford County his entire career. In a State Bar post, it was noted that Mr. Wolf puts his clients before financial concerns and serves as a mentor to younger attorneys. He has also been a dedicated advocate for women attorneys and attorneys of color. In addition to his practice, Mr. Wolf served as president of the local bar and as a member of the Disciplinary Commission.
Mr. Crow served as a captain in the US Army’s Judge Advocate General Corps from 1969 to 1973. He later returned to Monroe, North Carolina and has practiced there since 1975. The State Bar noted that Mr. Crow’s career has been “marked by a deep commitment to ensuring that justice is accessible to all, regardless of their financial means. Mr. Crow and his sons who practice with him regularly provide pro bono representation to low-income clients. In addition to his practice, Mr. Crow served as a State Bar councilor and president of the Union County Bar.
Mr. Barrett started his legal career as an assistant district attorney in Forsyth County where he served for nine years. In 1994, Mr. Barrett became an assistant United States attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina and still holds that position today. In a State Bar post, it was noted that Mr. Barrett “always modeled and promoted civility and professionalism in the practice of law.” Mr. Barrett has been a frequent lecturer on criminal trial advocacy at the United States Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center. He has also worked as an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University, where he has taught trial practice since 1996.
