Theodore C. Edwards Receives John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award
Lawyers Mutual congratulates Ted Edwards, who was honored by the North Carolina State Bar with the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service award. The award was presented to Edwards by State Bar President A. Todd Brown on February 23, 2024, at the LAP Minority Outreach Conference. The award is given to North Carolina lawyers who have demonstrated exemplary service to the legal profession.
Mr. Edwards’ service to the profession runs deep. He has served as president of the Wake County Bar Association and was a State Bar councilor for the 10th Judicial District for nine years. Additionally, Edwards is a former board member and chair of the LAP Board. He served on the Disciplinary Hearings Commission and was chair of the Client Security Fund. He currently serves on the NC IOLTA Board of Directors.
In addition to his State Bar and LAP volunteer work, Edwards has been very active with the North Carolina Bar Association. He has served as chair of the Young Lawyers Division and has been a member of the Legislative Advisory Committee, the Nominations Committee, and the Personnel Committee. He is a former member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Edwards has been honored by the NCBA with the Citizens Lawyer Award for his service work in the community. The Bar Association also recognized Edwards for his pro bono work by awarding him the William L. Thorp Pro Bono Service Award.
Ted Edwards is an inspiration to North Carolina attorneys. In the State Bar’s announcement of the award, it was noted that “Mr. Edwards is well-respected and highly regarded in the legal community throughout the state and he serves as a model for many young lawyers of color.” One of Mr. Edwards’ colleagues noted, “During a time where integrity is not prioritized as it should be, Ted Edwards is a sterling example of how a lawyer that holds himself to the highest moral standards can promote positive change in the community.”
