Tricia Shields Receives John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award

Lawyers Mutual congratulates Tricia Shields for receiving the prestigious John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina State Bar.

Tricia is a highly respected trial and appellate attorney whose practice focuses on civil litigation and appellate work. She represents people and their businesses in a wide variety of cases, including complex commercial litigation, malpractice and professional responsibility, products liability claims, and civil rights claims. In addition, she litigates before occupational licensing boards, defending and prosecuting licensees.  Lawyers Mutual has been fortunate to have Tricia on our defense panel for more than 25 years.

Tricia’s service to the profession is remarkable. She has been an active member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, serving as its President in 2011 and later receiving the Robert J. Elster Award for Professional Excellence. Tricia received the Women of Justice Award from North Carolina Lawyers Weekly in 2012. She also received the Diversity and Inclusion Award from North Carolina/South Carolina Lawyers Weekly in 2019. She has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2003.  Tricia also serves as General Counsel for her law firm Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe Garofolo.

Lawyers Mutual claims attorney Warren Savage was fortunate to work with Tricia in private practice at the law firm of Bailey & Dixon for nine years. Tricia served as a mentor to Warren when he joined the firm. Recounting a trial where he was paired with Tricia in his first year at Bailey & Dixon, Warren said, “Tricia’s brilliance and determination during a very difficult, long trial were an inspiring introduction to our great profession for me that I continue to marvel at to this day.”

Tricia will be officially presented the award during a reception held in her honor on November 14th.
